senator stevens: 'the internet is a series of tubes'

Techdirt: If Senators Aren't Going To Understand Tech, Can They At Least Be Consistent?
And again, the internet is not something you just dump something on. It's not a truck. It's a series of tubes.

as a follow up to my previous post where i mentioned that, imho, many in the u.s. government don't understand the internet, i found this quote from u.s. senator ted stevens as he explains how the internet works. and this guys is in charge of the committee that regulates the internet, too.

it would be funny if it were not so depressing.

I agree, this is why i am working for Hands Off the Internet. Not nderstanding the Internet is not a partisan problem. Members on both sides of the aisle have a lot to learn. This is a great example of why Congress should stay out of the issue - they shouldn't be regulating something they don't understand.

good to see your comments here.

while i like the stance hoti has on keeping the internet free of burdensome regulation, my impression (through two interviews that included hito rep mike mccurry) is that hoti sees the supreme court's "brand x" decision as a good thing (not to my way fo seeing it) and that hoti favors allowing market forces to govern the pricing of bandwidth (again, bad in my mind).

i see the hoi web site (http://handsoff.org) has some studies available and i'll review them to get a better understanding of hoti's position.

again, thanks for the comment
